(33)For The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox (Hulu / Disney+), the brief was expansive, with symbolism, mutoscopes, shifting tones, and even a different title per episode.
After rounds of exploration, the answer revealed itself in simplicity: a restrained typographic treatment. Strong enough to carry the weight of the story, subtle enough to hint at its twisted truths.
What we delivered in the end was far simpler than where we started. Sometimes you have to let go of your darlings to serve the project best.
And while the final sequence is pared back, the passion and exploration that got us there felt too valuable to leave behind. So we’re sharing more of the journey here.
A massive amount of exploration went into this project—testing various directions to find the right tone and balance for the wordmark, while also shaping ideas for how it might move and what story we were trying to tell.
After several rounds of exploration and refinement of the typography, we arrived at the final design for the opening title, shown below.
'THE TWISTED TALE OF' uses a bespoke, customized take on the typeface Raleway, while 'AMANDA KNOX' is set in the elegant La Luxes Serif from Set Sail Studios.
